PRESIDENT-ELECT CANDIDATE
The American Library Association Campaign is dedicated to representing the interests of libraries and library professionals. Tamika Barnes brings a wealth of experience and a passion for advancing the role of libraries in our communities. Their vision is to ensure that libraries continue to serve as vital hubs for learning, innovation, and community engagement.
TAMIKA4LIBRARIES
Tamika Barnes is the Associate Dean for Perimeter Library Services at Georgia State University, where she leads libraries across five metro Atlanta campuses supporting more than 30 associate-degree pathways. A nationally recognized library leader, she has served on the American Library Association Executive Board and recently chaired ALA’s Budget and Review Committee. Tamika is also President of the Georgia Library Association (2026). She holds degrees from UNC Chapel Hill and North Carolina Central University and is an adjunct faculty member with Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Tamika grew up in a military family, living in multiple states and graduating from high school in Germany—experiences that shaped her global perspective and deep appreciation for education and access to information. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master’s degree in library science from North Carolina Central University. Prior to moving to Georgia, she worked with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (as a contractor through UNC), North Carolina A&T State University, and North Carolina State University, gaining experience across federal, HBCU, and land-grant institutions.
VISION FOR LIBRARIES

I believe deeply in ALA’s ability to shape the future of libraries and the communities we serve. With experience, dedication, and a collaborative spirit, I am ready to listen, lead, and work alongside our members to build a stronger, more inclusive, and more impactful Association.
I respectfully ask for your vote, support and your partnership in this important work.
